Bargarh: In a significant move against illegal activities, Bargarh police on Monday busted a sex racket allegedly operating from a (dhaba) roadside eatery.
The raid took place in the Dhanger area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Bargarh Rural Police limits.
Following a series of undercover leads, officials swooped in on the establishment, confirming that the dhaba was being used as a front for the illicit flesh trade.
Dhaba owner, his wife among five arrested
A total of five individuals were apprehended during the operation. Police have identified the masterminds as the dhaba owner, Atmaram Panda, and his wife, Pranati Panda, both residents of Dhanger village.
In addition to the operators, three customers found on the premises were taken into custody. The arrested clients have been identified as:
- Nimai Sahoo (Adgaon)
- Samant Bhoi (Adgaon)
- Madan Banchhor (Adgaon)
Seizure of objectionable items, cash, liquors
The raid, which was executed based on specific intelligence, resulted in the recovery of various incriminating materials. Beyond the primary allegations, police discovered that the establishment was also doubling as an illegal liquor den.
Items seized by the police include:
- Cash: Rs 26,260 in liquid currency.
- Vehicles: Two motorcycles used by the accused.
- Electronics: Six mobile phones, currently being scanned for further leads.
- Contraband: A massive cache of illegal liquor and several "objectionable items."
The Bargarh Rural Police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the law. The authorities are currently investigating if this racket has links to a larger network operating within the district.
