Jaipur: In a sensational incident, notorious dacoit Jagan Gurjar, one of the most feared criminals from Rajasthan's Dholpur district and the Chambal region, was allegedly strangled to death inside Ajmer's High-Security Prison on Monday.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the police and prison administration, prompting a high-level investigation.

According to preliminary information, Jagan Gurjar was attacked inside the prison during the afternoon. Initial findings suggest that he died due to strangulation.

Following the incident, senior police and prison officials rushed to the jail with a heavy security contingent.

Ajmer Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agrawala, Additional Superintendents of Police Himanshu Jangid and Ganesh Ram, Deputy Superintendent of Police (North) Manish Badgujar, and Civil Lines Station House Officer Shambhu Singh Shekhawat reached the prison to supervise the investigation.

Senior prison officials, including High-Security Jail Superintendent Parasmal Jangid, the Superintendent of Ajmer Central Jail and other senior officers, also arrived at the scene to assess the situation and oversee security arrangements.

Following the incident, teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Mobile Investigation Unit (MOB) were immediately deployed to the prison.

Investigators have secured the crime scene and are collecting fingerprints, footprints and other forensic evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police officials have launched an investigation to establish how the attack occurred inside the high-security prison and whether other inmates or prison staff were involved.

Jagan Gurjar was a notorious dacoit from Bhavutipura village in the Dang region of Rajasthan's Dholpur district.

According to police records, he entered the world of crime after the murder of his brother-in-law in 1994.

Seeking revenge, he allegedly killed a fellow villager and subsequently fled into the Chambal ravines along with his wife and three brothers to evade arrest.

He later formed his own gang and, over the next several years, became one of the most feared dacoits operating across the Chambal region, which spans parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Police records attribute numerous cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion and other serious offences to his gang during its years of operation.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the prison killing, and further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
