Asika: On charges of attacking a 25-year-old man over a love triangle, the Ganjam Police has arrested three persons, including a woman in Asika.

Informing about the arrests, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sourav Ranjan Pradhan said the attack took place near the Rushikulya bridge at around 1 pm on Saturday. The victim, identified as Raja Bhuyan, a bus conductor by profession has sustained critical injuries. He was initially admitted to Asika hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur.

According to police, the accused arrived on a motorcycle, stopped a private bus named ‘Maa’ on the Rushikulya bridge. The attackers then forcibly dragged Bhuyan out of the bus and allegedly attacked him repeatedly with sharp weapons. Following the attack, the accused fled the spot.

The accused have been identified as Mitu Behera, Balia Behera and Sunita Behera from Debabhumi.

Preliminary probe suggests the attack stemmed from a love triangle. Raja Bhuyan was reportedly in a relationship with Dharmistha, Sunita Behera’s daughter, and had eloped with her. However, Dharmistha’s marriage had been arranged with Mitu Behera, one of the accused.

The SDPO stated police suspect the relationship and the proposed marriage were behind the alleged premeditated attack on the bus conductor.

All three accused were arrested and the weapons allegedly used in the attack were also seized.

The SDPO further informed the accused were forwarded to court following the arrest.
