Phulbani: A 'Gaon Sathi' of Durgapanga village in Odisha's Kandhamal district, who was reportedly kidnapped by Maoists on Sunday, has allegedly been shot dead by the ultras near Satanalia under Baliguda police limits on suspicion of being a police informer.

Several posters of Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagavali division of Maoists were found near the body in which it has been mentioned that Basant Bhatta, the deceased, was killed as he was providing information to police regarding their activities.

The posters also warned of dire consequence for others working as police informers.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the body and posters and started investigation.

On the other hand, locals staged a road blockade near Durgapanga village demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.

Notably, Bhatta was abducted from his house by a group of 15 armed men on Sunday.
