Jajpur: In a startling incident, as many as 23 cobra hatchlings were rescued from a bedroom of a house in Chandukuda village under Jayantara panchayat in Dasarathpur block of Odisha’s Jajpur district.
According to reports, the incident came to light when Gauranga Jena noticed a small snake moving inside his bedroom on Monday evening. When he attempted to drive it away, the snake raised its hood and tried to strike. Later, family members searched the room and spotted more snakes inside the house.
The family immediately informed Snake Helpline State Coordinator Pramod Sahu. Sahu, along with his associate Jahangir Khan, reached the spot and carried out an extensive search. They rescued 23 cobra hatchlings from the room. Several eggshells were also recovered from the site, indicating that the snakes had recently emerged from their eggs.
Speaking about the incident, Sahu said the current season is conducive for cobra eggs to hatch, and people should remain cautious. He warned that even young venomous snakes can be highly dangerous, as their venom can be life-threatening.
He advised residents, particularly during the monsoon season, to sleep under mosquito nets and keep their homes and surroundings clean to reduce the chances of snake encounters.
All the rescued cobra hatchlings were later released safely into a suitable natural habitat away from human settlements.
