Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police conducted a special enforcement drive in Kataka and Bhubaneswar on the night of August 26, targeting drunken driving, illegal arms, illicit liquor, narcotics, criminal activities and traffic violations.

The drive was carried out on the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, with intensified night patrolling and checking across the two cities. Women’s safety, prevention of crimes against women, organised crime, and action against drugs and illicit liquor were among the key priority areas.

As many as 336 Cadet Sub-Inspectors were deployed during the operation to participate in field enforcement and gain practical exposure to policing activities.

90 drunken-driving cases detected in Kataka

In Kataka, police detected 90 cases of drunken driving and seized an equal number of vehicles. The seized vehicles included 21 four-wheelers and 69 two-wheelers.

Police also detected two Excise cases and seized 35 litres of liquor. Two cases involving modified silencers were detected, while four mobile phones were recovered during the drive.

122 drunken-driving cases in Bhubaneswar

In Bhubaneswar, the enforcement drive resulted in 122 drunken-driving cases, with 122 vehicles seized. These included 49 four-wheelers, eight three-wheelers and 65 two-wheelers.

Authorities collected Rs 79,500 in Motor Vehicle (MV)/Odisha Urban Police (OUP) fines during the operation.

Chandrasekharpur Police Station seized two sand-loaded Hywas, while Mancheswar Police Station detected two Excise cases and two cases involving modified silencers.

During foot patrolling, Khandagiri Police Station personnel arrested three antisocial elements who were allegedly found consuming liquor at secluded locations.

Focus on night-time policing

The special drive was aimed at strengthening visible policing, preventing crime and improving road safety during night hours. Police also focused on identifying antisocial elements, curbing illegal activities and enforcing traffic regulations.

Odisha Police said such focused enforcement drives and field-oriented policing exercises would continue as part of efforts to ensure safer roads, prevent crime and strengthen public safety across the state.
