Bhubaneswar: Several abandoned bags, found in a busy locality in Odisha’s Puri city, triggered a bomb scare on Thursday.

The police swung into action and examined the bags before launching a probe into the incident.

As per reports, the abandoned bags were found at the Jatiababaji Square in the Holy City in the evening.

On being informed by the locals, officials of Puri Town police rushed to the spot and examined the bags.

The police recovered some documents, clothes, ornaments and food items from the bags. But there was no information regarding the owners of the bags.

A few locals, meanwhile, claimed that some destitute persons left the bags and fled the spot once they spotted a PCR van in the locality.

The incident has raised security concerns in the Holy City ahead of the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, scheduled to be held next month.

The police, however, revealed that adequate security measures are in place to deal with any eventuality during the mega event.
