Cuttack: The Cyber Police in Odisha's Cuttack have arrested a couple for allegedly creating fake email IDs in the names of doctors, pharmacy staff, and other employees of the Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC) in CDA Sector-7 here to obtain information through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The accused have been identified as Lakshmidhar Biswal and his wife Sonali Nayak. Sonali is employed at the Urban Community Health Centre, while Lakshmidhar is an RTI activist.

According to police, the couple allegedly created fraudulent email accounts using the names and photographs of the hospital employees. These accounts were used to seek and collect information through RTI applications.

The alleged fraud came to light after hospital staff came to know about the misuse of their identities and lodged a complaint with the Cuttack Cyber Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, a police team conducted a raid in the Astaranga area on Tuesday. During questioning, the couple admitted to creating fake email IDs.

Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the matter to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and whether any other individuals were involved.
