From the historic city of Katak (Cuttack) to the pages of Vogue India, Nimeshika Vemulakonda is proving that talent from Odisha can find its place on the national and global stage.
As the co-founder of contemporary womenswear label Muzèra, Nimeshika represents a new generation of entrepreneurs who are combining creativity, global exposure, and business vision to build brands with a distinct identity. While the recent Vogue India feature marked an important milestone for the young label, the journey behind it began years earlier in Odisha.
Growing up in Katak (Cuttack), Nimeshika was fortunate to be raised in an environment where creativity was encouraged rather than restricted. In a society where many young people are often guided toward conventional career paths, she was given the freedom to explore her interests from an early age. Whether it was drawing, dance, or other creative pursuits, her parents consistently supported her passions and encouraged her to pursue what genuinely inspired her.

Fashion was never a carefully planned career choice. It was something that came naturally. From a young age, Nimeshika was drawn to aesthetics, personal style, and creative expression. What began as an instinctive love for design gradually evolved into a professional ambition, leading her to pursue formal education in fashion design.
Even before beginning her journey in London, she had already started gaining recognition for her creative work. Her graduation collection was showcased at Asian Designer Week and MadMood Milano Fashion Week in Italy, providing early international platforms for her designs and marking important milestones in her creative journey. Her achievements were further recognised when she received the prestigious Biju Patnaik Youth Excellence Award, honouring her accomplishments and potential as a young talent from Odisha.
Determined to further refine her craft and broaden her perspective, Nimeshika later moved to London to pursue her master's degree in MA Fashion Business Management. There, she gained invaluable exposure to the global fashion industry and worked with renowned fashion house Karl Lagerfeld. The experience allowed her to understand the standards, processes, and creative discipline required to build a successful fashion brand on an international level.
Yet despite the opportunities abroad, one ambition remained constant: the dream of creating a brand of her own.
The idea for Muzèra emerged when Nimeshika met her co founder, Vatsal Divecha, who brought a strong understanding of the business side of fashion and believed deeply in her creative vision. Together, they identified a significant gap in the Indian fashion market. While consumers had access to affordable fast fashion or premium occasion wear, there appeared to be very little in between.
"We realised that the modern Indian woman was often forced to choose between mass produced everyday clothing and expensive occasion wear," says Nimeshika. "There was very little in between. We wanted to create pieces that felt elevated enough to make you feel confident, yet versatile enough to become part of your everyday life."
Built on this vision, Muzèra was created as a brand focused on thoughtful design and everyday versatility. At its core is a simple belief: great clothing should become part of a woman's life rather than simply mark a moment in time. Refined, effortless, and intentionally designed, every piece is created to be lived in, remembered, and returned to.

Drawing from her international experience while staying rooted in the values she grew up with in Odisha, Nimeshika set out to create a label that values longevity over trends and versatility over excess. Muzèra's collections are designed for women who want to feel confident, polished, and comfortable, whether they are attending a meeting, meeting friends for coffee, travelling, or celebrating a special moment.
Launched earlier this year, the brand's journey has been anything but easy. Like many entrepreneurs building something from the ground up, Nimeshika and Vatsal navigated self doubt, uncertainty, long working hours, and the sacrifices that come with transforming an idea into a business. Behind every collection, campaign, and product launch were months of planning, learning, and persistence.
These efforts were later recognised when Muzèra was featured by Vogue India, one of the country's most respected fashion publications. For many, such recognition may appear to be an overnight success. For Nimeshika, it represented years of preparation, countless lessons, and an unwavering commitment to a vision she had carried since the beginning of her career.
Today, as Muzèra continues to grow, Nimeshika hopes her journey serves as an example for aspiring entrepreneurs from Odisha who wish to pursue unconventional paths. She believes that talent can emerge from anywhere when it is supported by dedication, courage, and the willingness to take risks.
While being featured by Vogue India stands as a proud achievement, she views it as only the beginning. Her focus remains firmly on building Muzèra into a globally recognised fashion label that redefines how women dress, not just for special occasions, but for everyday moments that matter.
From Katak (Cuttack) to international exposure, from global fashion experience to building a homegrown brand, Nimeshika Vemulakonda's journey reflects the growing presence of Odisha's entrepreneurs on the national stage, and the exciting future that lies ahead for Muzèra.
