Gajapati: Villagers near the Mahendratanaya river in Gajapati district are worried following rise in the water level of the river following incessant rain under the influence of Cyclone 'Arnab'.

Totagumuda and Machamara villages have been inundated, with floodwater submerging several areas. The school and Shiva temple in Machamara village have also been submerged, while floodwater has surrounded the village, leaving residents worried.

Villagers in both areas are apprehensive about the worsening situation. Residents of Totagumuda fear their village could face a similar situation if the river level increases further.

The situation has triggered concern among residents of the two villages, who are closely monitoring the rising water level amid fears of further flooding and disruption.

Road connectivity to Mohana, Rayagada and Berhampur has been disrupted.

Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles over the Totagumuda bridge.
