The Union Government has directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to take necessary steps in this regard. However, the expansion will be subject to compliance with all existing rules, regulations and prescribed conditions.
The decision was taken after considering the application, documents and other information submitted by the medical college.
Welcoming the move, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the increase in MBBS seats would create new opportunities in medical education and help produce more doctors in the state.
The state government is working to expand the scope of medical education and provide more opportunities for meritorious students to pursue medical studies, the minister added.
The additional seats are expected to strengthen medical education opportunities in the region and increase the availability of trained medical professionals in the coming years.
