Bhubaneswar: Odisha has attracted investment proposals worth Rs 53,893.51 crore, with the potential to generate 20,210 employment opportunities, during the India Chem 2026 in Mumbai.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha strengthened its position as an investment destination at the two-day event that concluded on Friday, said the state government.

NLC India Ltd signed MoUs worth approximately Rs 36,763.51 crore in the chemical and power sectors, marking the largest investment commitment of the outreach, it added.

According to the state government, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed an MoU for a proposed investment of Rs 8,100 crore, with an estimated employment potential of 1,300. Overall, the state signed nine MoUs worth Rs 51,443.51 crore and received four Investment Intents (IIFs) worth Rs 2,450 crore.

“The two-day engagement reflects Odisha’s focused efforts to build on its established strengths in metals and minerals while diversifying its industrial economy, with greater emphasis on downstream manufacturing, chemicals and petrochemicals, engineering and technology-led industries,” said the government.

The discussions focused on building on Odisha’s established industrial base, expanding value-added manufacturing and strengthening linkages between metals and downstream industries. These engagements form part of the state’s wider strategy to attract fresh investments, deepen industrial supply chains and create new avenues for employment and economic growth.

The Chief Minister also held a high-level interaction with S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), along with L&T Group CEOs and members of its leadership team. The interaction culminated in an MoU with L&T for a proposed investment of Rs 8,100 crore, marking a significant outcome of Odisha’s investment outreach in Mumbai.

CM invites L&T to expand its manufacturing facility

Recognising L&T’s contribution to India’s heavy engineering and infrastructure sectors and its established presence at Kansbahal in Odisha, Majhi invited the company to expand its manufacturing footprint and explore new investment opportunities across the state.

The Chief Minister also called for greater collaboration in engineering design, industrial automation, technology and digital services, while encouraging L&T to strengthen its engagement with Odisha’s MSMEs and skill-development institutions.

“Odisha is ready to be a major growth partner for L&T in eastern India. We invite L&T to expand its manufacturing footprint, explore new opportunities in chemicals and petrochemicals, and strengthen its presence in engineering and technology. Our vision is to build an integrated industrial ecosystem where large industries, MSMEs and skilled youth grow together. The state government will extend the necessary support to translate investment proposals into projects on the ground. Together, we can create new opportunities, strengthen industrial capabilities and contribute to Samruddh Odisha 2036,” said the Chief Minister.
