Bhubaneswar: The authorities of Jagannath temple at Odisha’s Puri town have secured patent of some key terms and logos associated with the 12th century shrine.
This was revealed by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief Arabinda Kumar Padhee today.
“We have secured patent of some key words and logos associated with the Puri Jagannath temple. These include Ananda Bazar, Shree Patita Paban and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). We have received confirmation in this regard from the Intellectual Property India,” said Padhee.
The temple authorities have also applied for patient of 26 more terms associated with the shrine. “The Intellectual Property India has sought detailed information on these terminologies. We are quite sure that we will secure patent for those terms,” Padhee added.
It is worth mentioning here that the SJTA had earlier announced that it would apply for patent of terms associated with the Puri Jagannath temple to prevent their unauthorized use.
The temple authorities had revealed that they would seek patent of terms such as Srimandir, Jagannath Dham, Mahaprasad, logo of Srimandir, Shrikshetra and Purushottam Dham.
The SJTA had applied for patent of key words and logos associated with the shrine following the controversy over naming a newly-established temple at Digha in West Bengal last year.
The Bengal government led by then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had named the newly-built shrine as ‘Jagannath Dham’, inviting sharp reaction from the devotees of Lord Jagannath.
The devotees had then argued that the very term ‘Jagannath Dham’ has been associated with the Puri temple since long.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had written to the Bengal government and urged it to drop the word ‘Dham’ from the name of Digha temple. The Bengal government led by Suvendu Adhikari recently announced that they would take the necessary steps to drop ‘Dham’ word from the name of the Digha shrine.
