Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance has arrested two officials of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur for possession of disproportionate assets (DA).

VIMSAR Establishment Officer-cum-Office Superintendent Dhanurdhar Biswal and Steward (office of Superintendent) Ashwini Meher have been arrested for possession of DA.

The arrested duo will be produced in a Special Vigilance Court in Sambalpur. The Vigilance sleuths had earlier conducted searches on properties linked to the two officials.

During the searches, Biswal was found in possession of DA including two buildings (one multistoried building of area 1700 Sqft), 32 high value plots, Rs 19.72 lakh in cash, 83.05-gram gold, bank deposits worth over Rs 39 lakh, two trucks, two tractors and a four-wheeler.

Similarly, Meher was found in possession DA including three buildings (one multistoried building of 8,145 Sqft), one storeroom, 83-gram gold and 10 high-value plots.

The duo could not provide any satisfactory account in this regard. Two separate cases have been registered against the two officials under Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. Further investigation on the matter is underway, said the Vigilance Department.
