Bhubaneswar: An unidentified woman was found dead on the banks of the Kathajodi river in Odisha’s Kataka city on Wednesday. The woman’s body reportedly bore deep cut marks on the neck. 

 As per reports, some local residents spotted the body in the evening and alerted the police. Soon, personnel from the Purighat and Badambadi police stations rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

The police seized the body and sent it to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been established.

The cops reportedly found a mat, a cooking utensil and paper plates near the body. It is suspected that the woman may have been murdered by some miscreants.   

However, the exact circumstances leading to the woman’s death will become clear only after a detailed investigation and the post-mortem examination.

“We are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and making efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and determine whether the case is one of murder,” said a police officer.
