Bhubaneswar: A youth was allegedly assaulted and thrown into an abandoned well by some miscreants in Odisha’s Bargarh district on June 7.

The incident came to the light after the victim was rescued by the Fire Brigade personnel on June 10.

The incident took place in Samaleipadar area under Bijepur block in Bargarh.

As per reports, at least five miscreants brutally assaulted the victim in the afternoon of June 7. Assuming the victim to be dead, the desperadoes threw him into the abandoned well and fled the spot.

The victim spent at least three days in the well without any food. Some villagers spotted him in the well after they heard his screams on June 10.

On being informed, the police as well as Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the youth before admitting him to a community health centre (CHC) at Bijepur. Though the identity of the victim is yet to be known, sources claimed that he belongs to a village in Padmapur area of Bargarh.

“The victim has been rescued alive from the well. We are probing the incident,” said a police officer.
