Bhubaneswar/Kolkata: Bringing pride to Odisha and the nation, Dr. Kishor Chandra Satpathy, a distinguished library and information science professional, has been appointed Chair of IFIP Working Group 9.7 (History of Computing) under the International Federation for Information Processing.

Dr. Satpathy is currently serving as Chief Librarian and Head of the Library, Documentation & Information Science Division at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata—one of India’s leading institutions of national importance.

Established in 1992 under IFIP Technical Committee 9 (ICT and Society), Working Group 9.7 focuses on promoting international research, preservation, documentation, and dissemination of the history and heritage of computing worldwide.

With this appointment, Dr. Satpathy becomes the first Chair of IFIP WG 9.7 from Asia and only the fourth Chair in the group’s history, marking a significant milestone for India as well as the global library and computing heritage community.

The honour recognises his sustained contributions to preserving scientific and technological heritage through libraries, archives, museums, and digital preservation initiatives. As in-charge of the Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Memorial Museum & Archives at ISI, he has played a key role in documenting and safeguarding India’s legacy in statistics, computing, and information science, while also fostering international collaboration in the field.

An accomplished professional with over three decades of experience, Dr. Satpathy has held senior positions in several premier academic institutions across the country. He has been instrumental in modernising library systems, strengthening digital knowledge infrastructure, and enhancing access to scholarly information.

His work in heritage preservation, digital archives, institutional repositories, and knowledge management has earned both national and international recognition.
