Bhubaneswar: The postmortem examination of a 34-year-old patient, who died at the mental health department of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Kataka city, has confirmed multiple injuries on his body.

The postmortem report also revealed that the deceased, identified as Srikanta Das of Jajpur, was suffering from heart ailments.

However, the authorities are waiting for the viscera report to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

As per the allegations, Das succumbed to his injuries after he was assaulted by the hospital staff, including security personnel, on SCB premises. His family members had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Mangalabag police.

Das had been admitted to the mental health department of the hospital on September 28. He died while undergoing treatment on September 30.

“My brother was beaten mercilessly by the hospital staff and security personnel. There are injury marks all over his body, including his hands, legs and ears,” deceased’s younger brother had said in the complaint.

On the basis of the complaint, the police had registered a case and launched an investigation.
