Bhubaneswar: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Odisha’s Sundargarh district took custody of three siblings after their father approached it expressing his inability to take care of them due to poverty.
The man, a daily wager of Kinjirkela area, had approached the CWC to take care of his three children—two daughters and one son—as he was facing difficulties in raising them due to abject poverty. The man’s wife had eloped with someone a few years ago, reports said.
Accepting the application, the CWC had sent a team to visit the man’s village and conduct a detailed inquiry in this regard.
The CWC took custody of the three siblings, aged between five and 10 years, after the team found that the family was living in extreme poverty.
“Our officials found that the man was struggling the meet the basic needs of his three children. We took custody of the three siblings and sent them to childcare home,” said Sundargarh district Child Protection Officer Sribanta Jena.
