Puri: The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were pulled to the front of the Gundicha Temple on the second day of the annual Puri Rath Yatra on Friday.

The chariots were pulled by police personnel and devotees along the Grand Road (Badadanda) till they reached in front of the Gundicha Temple.

The chariot-pulling resumed this morning after it was halted on the first day of the festival after sunset.

On Thursday, the Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra had moved the farthest before stopping midway on Badadanda. The Darpadalana chariot of Devi Subhadra halted near the municipal market, while the Nandighosh chariot of Lord Jagannath moved only a few metres before the chariot-pulling was called off.

With the resumption of the pulling on Friday, all three chariots were successfully pulled to the front of the Gundicha Temple.

"We had been waiting since yesterday to witness the chariots reach Gundicha Temple. Seeing all three chariots arrive today filled us with immense joy and devotion," said a devotee from Cuttack.

"Despite the long wait and the huge crowd, being part of the chariot-pulling is a blessing. It is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience," said another devotee who had travelled from West Bengal to attend the festival.
