Sundargarh: Several sand mafia members allegedly attacked a mining official and police personnel during a raid on illegal sand transportation from the Amalipali sand ghat in Odisha's Sundargarh district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the official and cops from the Town Police Station conducted a raid at the sand ghat following information about illegal sand extraction and transportation. During the operation, the team seized six vehicles loaded with illegally mined sand.

However, while the seized vehicles were being taken to the police station, the sand mafia members launched an attack on the mining officer and police personnel. The attackers allegedly assaulted the enforcement team and forcibly took away five of the six seized vehicles.

Despite the attack, the cops managed to bring one of the seized vehicles to the Town Police Station.

Following the incident, the officer lodged a complaint with the police, on the basis of which a case was registered, and an investigation was launched to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
