Debagada: As many as six Class IX students sustained injuries in an alleged ragging incident involving nine senior students of Class XII at the hostel of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Odisha's Debagada district on Tuesday night.
A complaint in this regard was filed at the Debagada police station by Manmohan Dhal, father of one of the injured students, Soham Dhal.
Besides Soham, the other injured students have been identified as Shreeyam Dehuri, Yashobant Dhal, Shashikant Pradhan, Lokesh Pradhan and Aryan Sahu.
The nine senior students-- Ruturaj Sethi, Shivam Kalo, Anwesh Ashutosh Behera, Gagan Naik, Sumant Bhoi, Sairam Sahu, Prabhas Kumar Bhoi, Mohit Pradhan and Trinath Penthei-- have been named as accused in the FIR.
According to the allegations, the senior students attacked the juniors in retaliation after the parents of the victims had reportedly informed the school authorities that some Class XII students were keeping mobile phones in the hostel, which is a violation of the rules of the school.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Uttam Prasad, the principal of the school, has expelled the accused from the hostel.
