Bhubaneswar: The death toll of Odia migrant workers in the ammonia gas leak incident in Tamil Nadu has climbed to 10, after two more victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment on Thursday.

According to reports, Deepanjali Juang from Talaraidiha village under Banspal block died in the evening while receiving medical care. Earlier in the day, Rita Juang from Tangiri Dubanali Sahi under Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district also passed away during treatment.

With these latest casualties, the number of deaths among workers from Odisha in the tragic incident has risen from eight to ten.

Previously, eight Odia workers had lost their lives in the mishap. They have been identified as Shibani and Gita from Tangiri village under Telkoi police limits; Gumani and Jamini from Rangamatia; Phulamani and Sajani from Kodipasa in Banspal block; Champabati from Talachampei; and Subasi Juang from the Kantal area under Harichandanpur.

Most of the victims belonged to the Juang tribal community of Keonjhar district and were working in Tamil Nadu at the time of the incident.

The tragedy has raised serious concerns over industrial safety standards and the welfare of migrant workers. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the gas leak.
