Angul: A worker was killed in an accident at the Sree Metaliks plant in Angul district on Thursday, triggering tension outside the factory premises.

The deceased has been identified as Mangulu Bhoi, a resident of nearby Paranga village.

According to preliminary information, Mangulu was killed after an iron ore-laden truck met with an accident inside the factory premises. While the exact circumstances of the incident are yet to be ascertained, the company authorities said the truck was reversing when it hit a boundary wall.

The wall collapsed and fell on Mangulu, who was present at the spot, resulting in his death.

Following the incident, tension prevailed outside the Sree Metaliks factory gate as relatives of the deceased and local villagers staged a protest. They gathered in front of the plant and demanded action in connection with the worker's death.

The latest incident has also raised concerns over workplace safety at the industrial unit. In May this year, three workers were killed in an accident at the Sree Metaliks plant, according to reports.

Sree Metaliks Ltd, located in Angul, is an iron and steel manufacturing company.

Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the accident and any compensation or other assistance to the deceased worker's family are awaited.
