Bhubaneswar: Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar has introduced the Manipal Comprehensive Scanning Facility, featuring an advanced PET/CT facility aimed at strengthening access to advanced diagnostic imaging for cancer patients in Odisha.
The facility is expected to support doctors in cancer diagnosis, assessment, treatment planning and monitoring by providing detailed information about both the structure and functioning of tissues and organs.

The launch was marked in the presence of Partha Das, Chief People Officer, Manipal Hospitals, and Dr Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, South East, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, along with senior management, doctors and hospital staff.
Alongside the comprehensive scanning facility, the hospital has also introduced new OPD services to expand access to specialist consultations and healthcare services. The initiative is aimed at enabling patients to access consultations, diagnostic investigations and further treatment under one roof.
A PET/CT scan combines Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) in a single examination. While PET provides information about how tissues and organs are functioning, CT generates detailed images of internal structures. Together, the two imaging techniques can provide doctors with a more comprehensive assessment of disease.
The advanced PET/CT facility will primarily support cancer care by helping clinicians identify and assess abnormal areas, determine the extent of disease and monitor changes during treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Partha Das, Chief People Officer, Manipal Hospitals, said the availability of the facility would strengthen access to advanced diagnostic imaging for patients in Odisha.
“PET/CT can provide doctors with important information about both the structure and functioning of tissues, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring. Along with our expanded OPD services, our focus is on making specialised consultations and advanced diagnostics more accessible to patients closer to home,” he said.
Dr Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, South East, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, said PET/CT is particularly useful in cancer care as it can provide information about both the structure of an organ and changes in tissue function.
He said the technology can assist doctors in detecting abnormal areas, assessing the extent of disease and monitoring treatment response, adding that patients in Odisha can now access advanced PET/CT imaging without necessarily travelling outside the state.
With the new scanning facility and expanded OPD services, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar aims to strengthen access to specialised healthcare and advanced diagnostic services, enabling patients to receive comprehensive care closer to home.
