Deogarh: In a bizarre incident, some students of a college in Odisha’s Deogarh district, appearing for the annual Plus Two Examinations, walked out of the exam hall demanding malpractices should be allowed and removal of CCTVs during the examination.

The incident occurred at Deogarh College, one of the oldest higher educational institutions in the district, today leaving the college teachers and staff shocked and astonished.

According to the College Principal, as many as 68 students, including 44 boys and 24 girls, appearing for the Physics paper, sat on the corridor of the building demanding the authorities must allow them for malpractice inside the exam hall.

When things went out of control, the college authorities informed the District Collector and police seeking their urgent intervention in the matter. On being informed, Collector Sudhansu Mohan Samal and SP Rahul Jain reached the college and seized the answer sheets, questions papers and examination admission cards from the students, an official said.

“The Collector and police have seized their question papers and noted down their names and roll numbers saying action will be taken against those students as per the law,” said College Principal Santoshini Satpathy.

The examination was going on in a room on the top floor of the college building, which is under CCTV surveillance as per the State government’s instructions.

She said: “Some students walked out of the exam hall and sat on the corridor of the ground floor when the invigilator didn’t allow the unfair means during the examination.”

The answer sheets of these students have been sent to the examination controller while answer papers of other students were sent for valuation, the Principal added.

Total 127 students were appearing the examination.

It may be recalled here that the School and Mass Education Department of State government has asked all schools and colleges to install CCTV cameras in all exam halls in order to check malpractice.
