Noted Ghazal Singer Pankaj Udhas no more

Bhubaneswar: Noted Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas breathed his last in Mumbai today. He was 73.

Udhas was suffering from certain illness for last several days. His daughter Nayaab Udhas confirmed the news through an official statement.

“With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to prolonged illness,” read her statement.

As per media reports, Udhas was suffering from cancer and he was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Mumbai.

Udhas, a popular Ghazal singer, was born in Gujarat in 1951. He rose to fame as the most popular Ghazal singer in the 1980s and 1990s.

Udhas would be remembered forever for lending voice to popular Hindi film songs like ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’ (Naam), ‘Aaj Phir Tumpe Pyaar Aaya Hai’ (Dayavan), ‘Mohabbat Inayat Karam Dekhte Hain’ (Bahaar Aane Tak), ‘Jiye to Jiye Kaise’ (Saajan) and ‘Na Kajre ki Dhaar’ (Mohra).
