Odisha man held for marrying woman by posing as IAS officer

Baripada: The Khunta police arrested a person last night from Damodarpur in Udala area of Odisha's Mayurbhanj district for allegedly marrying a woman after posing as an IAS officer.

The arrested has been identified as Rajat Panda of Tihidi area in Bhadrak district. He had married a woman at a temple in Udala on May 20 after identifying himself as Lingaraj Panda, sub-Collector of Malkangiri district. He was staying at his in-laws' house in Damodarpur thereafter.

Later, Khunta police came to know that a case was pending against him at Malkangiri police station following which he was arrested yesterday.

However, his in-laws have not lodged any police complaint against him due to which he will be handed over to Malkangiri police, sources said.

Panda was earlier arrested in 2015 for his alleged involvement in the Seashore Group chit fund scam and lodged in the Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar for 1.5 years, police sources said.
