Bhubaneswar: Believe or not, five youths, including a minor, joined hands to loot chains, mobile phones and other valuables from people in Odisha capital to earn quick money and then spend it on girls in dance bars every weekend.

It seems the modus operandi of the youths is straight out of a Bollywood thriller but the Commissionerate Police today busted the gang which had robbed several people including women and college-goers in the city.

The accused are identified as Tiki Pradhan, Babu Pradhan, Kalu Behera, Biswanath Senapati and a minor whose identity has not been disclosed by the police. Sources said all of them confessed to their crime during interrogation saying they need money to live a lavish lifestyle.

Khandagiri Police which nabbed the gang members has seized a cache of loot items such as high-end mobile phones, gold chains and diamond rings etc from their possession.

Confirming the news, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said the gang members used to commit the crime in order earn easy money.

“The arrested persons, mostly youngsters, used to loot people in order to fulfill their various bad habits like taking drugs, drinking and partying. They were involved in at least five snatching cases pending against them at the Khandagiri Police Station,” said

10 mobile phones, 4 gold chains, 1 diamond ear ring, one laptop and a motorcycle were seized from their possession, the DCP added.

All the arrested persons later forwarded to court, he said.
