Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to Siva Shankar Dash aka Pintu, a former mayor of Berhampur, on a case pertaining to the assault on BJP leader and MP Pradeep Panigrahy.

Dash had been arrested by the police in Berhampur for allegedly assaulting Panigrahy near a polling booth during the first phase Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha on May 13 this year.

Dash, who was contesting the Assembly polls from Berhampur seat as an independent candidate, had allegedly assaulted Panigrahy, the BJP Lok Sabha nominee, following an argument over some issues near a polling booth at Gosani Nuagaon.

Dash had been lodged in Berhampur Circle Jail following his arrest in connection with the incident.

Notably, Panigrahy as BJP candidate won the Berhampur Lok Sabha seat by defeating Bhrugu Baxipatra of BJD.
