Angul: A person allegedly killed his father and mother by thrashing the couple with a hammer at Barapadar village under Kishore Nagar police limits in Odisha's Angul district last night.

According to police sources, one Dukhishyam Bagha (35) of the village returned home in an inebriated state last night and beat his wife following a heated exchange of words between the two.

His parents Karunakar (70) and Champa (65) opposed the act and tried to stop him. In a fit of rage, Dukhishyam took a hammer and hit the two at their heads killing them on the spot.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the bodies for post-mortem and detained the accused. Investigation into the matter is underway.

In a similar incident, a person was shot dead by his son at Shrungipal village under Kundeigola police limits in Deogarh district last night.

As per police sources, Bhagirathi Munda (51) and his son Aju (30) consumed liquor together. Moments later, an argument erupted between the two following which Aju took a country-made pistol and opened fire at his father killing him on the spot.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
