Nuapada: In a heart wrenching incident, an effort by a girl to save her younger brother from drowning in a pond went in vain and even more tragically both drowned in the water body at Mahulabhatta village in Odisha's Nuapada district today.

The deceased were identified as Tezbai Rana (14) and her brother Daulat Rana (12). The incident took place when the two were bathing in the pond near their house.

As the girl saw her brother slipping into the waters, she tried to rescue him during which both met watery grave.

They were rushed to Nuapada district headquarters hospital where doctor declared them dead.
