Unlucky trio: Mother, son, son-in-law bite the dust in Odisha elections

Bhubaneswar: BJD General Secretary (Organisation) Pranab Prakash Das, his mother Sandhyarani Das and brother-in-law Arindam Roy have been defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha.

Pranab Prakash and his mother Sandhyarani fought the elections from Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat and Korei Assembly seat respectively on BJD tickets. Roy, an actor-turned-politician, tried his luck from Salipur Assembly segment on a BJP ticket.

Pranab Prakash, the third most powerful leader in BJD, was defeated by BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from Sambalpur. Pradhan won the election by a margin of 1,19,836 votes.

Sandhyarani lost the polls to Akash Dasnayak of BJP from Korei Assembly seat in Jajpur district. Dasnayak, an Ollywood actor, got elected by a margin of 5,646 votes.

Roy was defeated by Prasanta Behera of BJD from Salipur Assembly seat. Behera won the poll by a margin of 7,594 votes.
