Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested a most-wanted fraudster accused of duping people of crores of rupees. The accused, identified as Sachidananda Bhoi, was apprehended by Infocity Police while allegedly attempting to flee to Nepal via the West Bengal border.
ACP Manas Ranjan Pradhan said Bhoi had been on the run in connection with multiple cheating cases involving an estimated fraud of around ₹5 crore. He was operating under the name of a company called “Go Speed Go Car Service,” through which he allegedly duped several individuals.
Cases against the accused have been registered at multiple police stations in Bhubaneswar, including Saheed Nagar Police Station, the Special Crime Unit, Pahala Police Station, and the Consumer Redressal Forum. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) had also been issued against him prior to his arrest.
Police said complaints have been lodged by nearly 250 victims accusing Bhoi of cheating them.
After his arrest near the Nepal border, Bhoi was produced before a court in Siliguri, following which the police secured a four-day transit remand to bring him to Bhubaneswar for further investigation.
The official further informed a detailed probe into the accused’s financial transactions is currently underway. Investigators are also examining whether any of the defrauded money was invested outside the country.
The police suspect that the fraud network may extend beyond the state and are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the scam and possible accomplices.
