Well-marked low pressure over Bay to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Several parts in Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next three days due to the well-marked low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast.

A special bulletin issued by the regional office of the Indian Meteorological Department said: “The low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast now seen as a well-marked low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours. Under influence of low pressure system and consequent enchantment of monsoon circulation, rainfall activity will increase over districts of Odisha during 10-12th June with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.”

The bulletin further said that squally wind speed upto 60 kmph is very likely to pass over North Bay of Bengal along and off Odisha coast during the coming three days.

While the sea condition will be rough to very rough during this period over North Bay of Bengal along odisha and off Odisha coast, the weathermen advised fishermen not to venture along and off Odisha coast and also into North Bay of Bengal during these three days.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has covered Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, most parts of Rayagada and some parts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Khordha and Puri districts.

Conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of the state during next 48 hours, it added.
