Woman falls to her death from third floor of apartment in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Body of a young woman found on the rear seat of a sedan parked in the basement of an apartment in Odisha capital has sent shock waves across the city.

Reportedly, the young woman in her 30s fell off the third floor of Nityananda Apartment in Shree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits in the wee hours today.

Sources said the deceased identified as Jignyasa Mishra had visited Shashank Chandrawanshi residing in Block C, 301 apartment last evening. The duo partied till late in the night.

After a while, the man hailing from Chhattisgarh found her missing. When he didn’t find her in all the possible areas, he went to the balcony only to find her lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor.

Shashank claimed that he rushed her to hospitals in the city. But, it was too late. Hours later, he informed the local police about the incident.

On the contrary, the family members of the deceased alleged that she has been murdered.

“They were partying in the apartment. I suspect that she has been pushed from the balcony. It should be investigated properly,” Jignyasa’s father alleged.

Sequence of events as per CCTV records:

7.26 pm: Shashank and Jignyasa entered the apartment.

3.02 am: A car (venetian red) went outside of the apartment gate.

3.58 am: The sedan (OD02T 6964) returns to the society.

5.35 am: Shashank seen moving out of the apartment on a scooterette.

The deceased from Koraput was working in a call centre and her husband works in Hyderabad. She was staying in a rented house in BDA Colony in Chandrasekharpur, reports said.

On the other hand, the woman has a daughter (01) who had gone to her maternal grandfather’s house.

Meanwhile, the local police have registered a case of unnatural death (UD) and are probing into the matter. The body was sent to Capital Hospital here for inquest and post-mortem.

Till the filing of the report, Shashank was detained at the police station for questioning.
