Body of Kalpana Dash retrieved; to be flown to Odisha capital soon

Bhubaneswar: The body of mountaineer Kalpana Dash, who died while descending from Mount Everest a few days ago, was retrieved and brought to the Base Camp-4 of the peak today.

Sources said a Nepali Sherpa located the body and brought it to the base camp. The body will be sent to Kathmandu, from where it will be brought to Bhubaneswar.

“A three-member team has already left for Kathmandu to bring the body back to the state. Earlier, the Secretary of Odisha Sports Department has written a letter to the Indian Embassy in Nepal in this regard,” said an official of Odisha Sports Department.

Worth mentioning, the 52-year-old climber from Odisha died above the Balcony area on Mt Everest on May 23 while descending from the summit. Kalpana, who had had left for Everest on April 23, had complained breathlessness while descending from the peak. At least 14 climbers died allegedly due to mismanagement and overcrowding this season.
