Bhubaneswar: Vehicular traffic on the National Highway (NH-16) has been disrupted after floodwater from Bahuda river submerged a portion of the road near Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border on Thursday.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has advised the road users to exercise extreme caution and strict follow the instructions issued by the local authorities.
As per reports, the floodwater of Bahuda river was flowing over the NH-16 near Ichchapuram on Andhra-Odisha border.
“Due to the overflow of the Bahuda River near Ichchapuram, at the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border along the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway (NH-16), vehicular movement has been disrupted. Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow the instructions issued by the local authorities on-site,” read the traffic advisory issued by the NHAI.
It is worth mentioning here that cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’, which made a landfall near Yanam in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday morning, triggered heavy rainfall in Odisha as well as the neighbouring state.
At least 17 districts in Odisha were affected by the cyclone. Similarly, the system caused extensive damage in the coastal districts of Andhra.
Notably, NH-16 is major highway in India that runs along the eastern coast, connecting Kolkata in West Bengal to Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The National Highway passes through several districts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
