Berhampur: Tension gripped Berhampur city after police opened fire during an operation to apprehend a criminal accused, leaving him injured.

According to reports, the incident occurred while police were conducting a raid as part of an investigation into a criminal case. During the operation to nab the accused, he allegedly launched a counterattack on the police team, prompting them to open fire in self-defence.

The injured accused has been identified as Dipun Nayak, a resident of the Harijan Sahi in Dhip Sahi area under Lanjipalli in Berhampur. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the firing prompting the authorities to shift him to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.

As per latest reports, the accused is undergoing treatment at the MKCG hospital.
