Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a retired government official allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat under the Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday forenoon.

The deceased has been identified as Priyambada Sadangi. The incident took place in Swostik Nagar.

According to reports, Priyambada and her husband, Debaraj Sadangi, had been married for nearly 30 years. On Wednesday morning, the 62-year-old Debaraj allegedly murdered his wife at their residence. He later surrendered before the police and was taken into custody.

Debaraj had recently retired from government service, where he was working as a senior accountant in the Accountant General’s office.

The couple’s daughter told police that Debaraj had been suffering from depression for the past several months. Around noon, he visited his married daughter in the Patrapada area and handed over Priyambada’s gold jewellery and cash. At the time, she was unaware of the incident.

Priyambada’s elder sister also stated the victim had earlier mentioned Debaraj’s mental health condition, adding he had asked her not to disclose it to others.

Police have registered a murder case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Debaraj has been arrested, and further investigation is underway with the assistance of a scientific team.
