Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident raising concerns over the effectiveness of enforcement against drunk driving, a Mahindra Thar vehicle allegedly driven under the influence crashed into a garage in the Nayapalli area of the city.

According to reports, the SUV was moving at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and ram into a roadside garage. The impact left the garage owner and his associate injured. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle appeared unstable before it ploughed into the garage. The incident triggered tension in the locality, with residents gathering at the spot soon after the crash.

Personnel from the Nayapalli police station have detained the driver. During inspection, officials reportedly recovered liquor bottles from inside the vehicle, indicating suspected drunk driving.

Meanwhile, some youths who were travelling in the Thar vehicle allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over rising cases of drunk driving in Bhubaneswar and raised questions about the enforcement measures in place to curb such violations.
