Puri: In an unsettling incident, an elderly couple residing in the Senapati Bagicha area of Puri were found dead late at night, allegedly having died by suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan.

The deceased have been identified as Anam Mishra and his wife, Sangeeta Mishra. According to preliminary information, the couple is suspected to have taken the extreme step simultaneously.

Anam Mishra was a retired officer from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and had been living in Puri after his retirement. His wife hailed from Dolamandap Sahi in the town. The couple had purchased land and built a house in Senapati Bagicha, where they were residing.

While the exact reason behind the tragic incident is yet to be ascertained, initial reports suggest ongoing family-related issues may have driven the couple to take the drastic step.

Amid speculation, their son clarified substance abuse was not a factor in the deaths. He alleged  there were persistent family disputes and claimed his father often complained about money that had not been returned by someone. He has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

There were also claims within the family about possible black magic being involved; however, no official confirmation has been made regarding such allegations.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the deaths. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
