Angul: In connection with the trafficking of a minor girl followed by her sale and alleged sexual assault, the Angul police have arrested four persons, including a woman.

The arrested accused — Sadananda Pradhan of Kelkata village, Dipali Sahu of Chhatabara village, and Tiruana Sahu of Sampur village — were produced before a court on Wednesday following their arrest.

Police sources said the main accused, Sumit Choubey from Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested on Tuesday and brought to Angul. He is scheduled to be produced before a local court on Thursday.

The case came to light on October 4, 2024, when a minor girl who had gone missing from the Kishorenagar area of Angul district was rescued from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh.

According to police, the girl had been taken from her home on the pretext of imparting tailoring training and was later moved to various locations within Odisha. She was subsequently sold to a youth in Madhya Pradesh.

During the recording of her statement after rescue, it was revealed she had been subjected to mental and physical abuse.

Following the rescue, Angul police continued their investigation, leading to the arrest of the four accused. Further investigation into the case is underway.
