Kandhamal: A murder case has been reported from the Belghar police limits in Kandhamal district, where a man was allegedly shot dead after being called out of a house, with family members suspecting a land dispute behind the crime.
The deceased has been identified as Kamadeb Majhi, a resident of Saperi village under Guma panchayat.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Kamadeb was resting at his in-laws’ house.
Family members alleged that two accused, identified as Madhusudan Majhi and Litu Majhi, called him outside. Later in the evening, locals found his body near a village close to Kadapanna under Belghar police limits and informed his relatives.
Upon reaching the spot, the family alerted the police. Personnel from Belghar Police Station arrived at the scene, seized the body and sent it to the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

A formal complaint has been lodged by the family, alleging murder. Both accused are currently absconding, and a search operation has been launched to trace them.
Victim’s body carried 8 km due to lack of ambulance
In a disturbing development, locals reportedly had to carry the body for nearly 8 kilometres to Belghar due to the absence of an ambulance at the spot.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances behind the killing.
