Mayurbhanj: Following death of a 20-year-old woman from Udala area in Mayurbhanj district under suspicious circumstances at her in-law’s house, her parents have levelled murder allegations.  

The deceased, identified as Charchita Nayak was the only daughter of Dinesh Nayak from Agapal area. According to reports, Charchita had married Jagadish Mohanty of Chhanpur in a love marriage around two years ago.

Family members said Charchita had distanced herself from her parental home following the marriage and was in limited contact, speaking occasionally only with her mother.

Just a day after celebrating her 20th birthday, her parents received information from her in-laws today morning she had allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself with a scarf.

But, upon reaching the hospital, Charchita’s father noticed multiple injury marks on her body, raising suspicions of physical assault. 

Her father, Dinesh Nayak lodged a complaint at the Industrial Area police station, seeking justice for his daughter. He alleged his daughter was beaten to death and demanded a thorough investigation.

Based on the complaint, police detained Charchita’s husband, Jagadish Mohanty, for questioning.

Police officials stated the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
