Nabarangpur: Police have arrested a local youth in connection with the alleged murder of a woman in the Kodinga area of Nabarangpur district on June 14, Superintendent of Police Jagdish Parth Kashyap said on Tuesday.

According to the SP, a detailed investigation was launched based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Acting on circumstantial and scientific evidence, along with witness testimonies, police arrested the accused, identified as Dasarath Majhi.

The SP said evidence indicates the accused was present near the victim’s house on the day of the incident. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.

However, the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Police have also not confirmed whether the victim was sexually assaulted, stating further investigation is required to ascertain all aspects of the case.

The accused will be produced before a court and subsequently taken on remand for further questioning.

Police said the investigation is ongoing to uncover all details related to the incident.
