Cuttack: Following allegations of sexual assault against the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Sarankul Police Station, Sujit Kumar Das, the Odisha Police on Thursday directed the Crime Against Women & Children Wing (CAW&CW) to take over the investigation.
Official sources said IUCAW Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanghamitra Nayak has been assigned to probe the case.
Based on a complaint filed by Kuni Behera, a resident of Jamusahi village under Sarankul police limits, a case (Sarankul PS Case No. 133 dated 17.06.2026) has been registered under Sections 64(1), 74, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), accusing the IIC of sexual assault.
Earlier, the Additional SP of IUCAW had conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
Considering the seriousness of the allegations and to ensure an impartial probe, the Odisha Police has now handed over the investigation to the CAW&CW.
Meanwhile, Inspector Sujit Kumar Das has been attached to the District Police Office (DPO) in Nayagarh. Inspector Anita Sahoo of DCRB Nayagarh has been asked to remain in charge of Sarankul Police Station until further orders, sources added.
