Bhubaneswar: On charges of cheating a woman on the pretext of marriage and defrauding her of gold ornaments worth around ₹30 lakh, the Commissionerate Police have arrested a doctor.

The accused, identified as Dr. Abinash Mohanty, was arrested from Umarkote following a complaint lodged by the woman at the Airfield Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

Mohanty is currently posted as a government doctor in the Sanakhemundi area of Ganjam district.

According to police sources, the complainant alleged the doctor developed a relationship with her under false promises of marriage and maintained physical relations. She further accused him of deceiving her and fraudulently taking gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹30 lakh.

Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and subsequently arrested the accused. He has been brought to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
