Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the Kanasa attack case, Puri Police have arrested four persons for their alleged involvement. The accused will be produced before a court on Tuesday.

According to reports, three of the accused surrendered at the Kanas Police Station at around 10:30 a.m., arriving in a car. A case had earlier been registered against seven individuals in connection with the incident.

The attack took place on Saturday at a fish market in Golabazar, Kanasa, where a youth was allegedly hacked with a sharp weapon. The assailants also attempted to kill him by running a motorcycle over him.

Following their surrender, the three accused were taken to the Satyabadi Police Station for further interrogation.

Later in the day, Puri SP Prateek Singh informed the media about the arrest of four persons—Dharmapada Badajena, Chandrakanta Jena, Chinmaya Gajendra, and Ajay Baliarsingh.

Police said a total of seven persons are involved in the case. Efforts are underway to nab the main conspirator, identified as “Happy,” who remains absconding.

Special teams have been formed to conduct raids and apprehend the absconding accused, as well as those who allegedly helped them evade arrest.

During the investigation, police seized the weapon used in the attack along with two mobile phones.

Further investigation is underway.
