Bhubaneswar: Cautioning people against fraudsters posing as census officials, the Odisha Police on Tuesday issued a scam alert.

According to police, scammers are visiting homes impersonating census enumerators, using fake ID cards and uniforms to appear legitimate. They are reportedly tricking unsuspecting residents into sharing OTPs on the spot.

The police also warned citizens against clicking on suspicious ‘Census App’ links or APK files.

Authorities clarified government officials will never ask for OTPs or bank details.

In case of fraud, people are advised to immediately call the 24x7 cybercrime helpline at 1930 or file a complaint online at cybercrime.gov.in.

Police further noted genuine census enumerators only collect basic household information such as the number of members, age, and occupation.
